The Society of Cosmetic Chemists at USC is proud to be a student chapter of the global Society of Cosmetic Chemists, dedicated to bridging science, beauty, and innovation–welcoming all majors and classes. Interest in cosmetic science at USC is booming—in just one year, we’ve grown from 20 to over 120 active members! It’s an exciting challenge to have, but with rapid growth comes increased need for resources. That’s why we’re seeking funding: to keep up with student demand and continue providing high-impact, hands-on experiences that prepare the next generation of STEM leaders in beauty.

Why Cosmetic Science Matters Now More Than Ever

In the digital age, beauty isn't just trending; it's transforming. Young consumers are choosing products based on ingredients, skin benefits, and science– not just branding. With skincare content flooding TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, young consumers are asking smarter questions, and looking for smarter products.

At the same time, many young women in STEM are eager to explore industries beyond medicine or academia. Cosmetic science offers the perfect blend of creativity and chemistry. That’s why our club exists: to give students a fun, hands-on way to explore the science behind beauty while gaining valuable professional skills and discovering new career paths.

We provide a space for students—especially young women in STEM—to explore beauty as a serious, science-driven industry while gaining professional development, mentorship, and real-world experience. Whether they go on to work in product development, biotech, or brand strategy, being part of our club gives them the foundation to break into a field that’s not only exciting, but also evolving every day.

Why We Need Your Support

Our club exists to cultivate the next generation of STEM leaders in beauty. Through access to lab-based formulation experiences, insights from industry experts, and opportunities to explore careers in cosmetic chemistry, we aim to give students the tools and confidence to lead in a rapidly evolving industry. But as a student organization, we don’t have the same resources as academic departments or professional labs. That’s where your support comes in!

Your donation will directly contribute to:

1. Representing USC on the National Stage

Each year, our students attend top beauty conferences such as MakeUp in LA, Expo West, Beautycon, CosmoProf, L'Oréal Brandstorm, NYSCC, and CaliSCC. These are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to network, win incubator competitions, explore innovations in beauty, and learn from the best in the field. However, travel, registration, and lodging costs can be steep. Your donation will help more students access these transformative experiences without financial barriers.

Funding needed: $5,000

2. Bringing Industry to Campus

We host guest speakers from top beauty brands and cosmetic chemists like Jane the Chemist—an industry leader with 180k+ TikTok followers. This year we also collaborated with powerhouse brands like Lancôme and Anastasia Beverly Hills. These events offer mentorship, career insights, and inspiration. Your support helps us keep them going with speaker hospitality and refreshments.

Funding needed: $1,000

3. Spreading the Word & Growing Our Community

This year, SCC tabled at the USC Involvement Fair for the first time—and it sparked a huge wave of interest, helping us grow from 20 to over 120 members. While we often table near Viterbi, it’s clear that cosmetic science resonates across campus, especially with young women in STEM. With your support, we can create bold, eye-catching banners, posters, flyers, and stickers to help us stand out at future fairs and keep growing our community.

Funding needed: $150

4. Hands-On Formulation Labs

This year, we used the concept of reverse-engineering to uncover the formulas of popular cosmetic products– such as blush, perfume, and eyeshadow– and helped our members gain real lab experience that prepares them for careers in cosmetic R&D.

Cosmetic science is where chemistry meets creativity—but to learn it, students need access to proper materials. Funding will help us purchase lab equipment and ingredients so members can experience the full product development process, from concept to formulation.

Funding needed: $1,000

5. Recognizing Our Members

Our members put in hours of work representing USC at national conferences, formulating, planning events. With your help, we want to offer club merchandise that builds pride and community—like lab coats, tote bags, or apparel that celebrate their identity as future cosmetic scientists.

Funding needed: $1,000
