USC ASBME is raising $2,000 to bring Make-A-Thon Jr. back to the USC / South Los Angeles community, a hands-on biomedical engineering prototyping competition designed for local high school students.  Contributions from our supporters will directly fund materials, equipment, food, venue space, and prizes to help us create an unforgettable STEM experience for young students.

About Us

The Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering (ASBME) is a student-led  organization at USC dedicated to supporting the biomedical engineering community. We host industry networking events, mentorship programs, workshops, and service activities that empower students to grow academically, professionally, and personally. Our goal is simple: to be a meaningful resource for any student interested in biomedical engineering—while giving back to our neighbors.

Our Mission

This year, USC ASBME is committed to rehosting Make-A-Thon Jr., a 36-hour biomedical device prototyping competition built specifically for high school students.

Our mission is to provide early, hands-on exposure to STEM fields

At Make-A-Thon Jr., students will:
  • Learn technical skills like Arduino, CAD, and 3D modeling/printing
  • Hear from keynote speakers and panelists in STEM
  • Build a functioning prototype addressing a real-world biomedical challenge
  • Collaborate in teams, problem-solve, and grow as innovators

Our pilot event two years ago brought in 30+ students, and this year we aim to welcome over 60 participants, doubling our impact!  To do that, we need your support!

How Your Donation Helps

Contribution from our family, friends, and members of the Trojan community will help us with:
  • Prototyping materials (electronics, sensors, 3D printing supplies, etc.)
  • Venue costs to host a safe and productive competition environment
  • Food and refreshments to keep students energized during the 36 hours
  • Prizes that celebrate creativity and innovation

Every dollar goes directly toward creating a high-quality, accessible, and inspiring STEM experience for local youth.

Why It Matters

Gifts in support of our campaign will allow us to help young future engineers to:
  • Discover a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math
  • Gain confidence in their ability to solve real-world problems
  • Strengthen teamwork, communication, and analytical skills
  • See a future for themselves in engineering and higher education

For many participants, Make-A-Thon Jr. may be their very first exposure to engineering and may be where they realize they belong in STEM.

Join Us in Making a Difference

With your help, we can reach our $2,000 goal and make Make-A-Thon Jr. possible once again. Together, we can empower young students in our community and open doors to futures they may have never imagined.

Thank you for supporting the next generation of STEM leaders!
FIGHT ON!
